AIOLIA workshops in Japan

  • Events

The research group at the Research Center on Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues, The University of Osaka, has been participating in the Horizon Europe Project AIOLIA since February 2025. Using workplace emotion-recognition AI as a case study, the group has been working to identify relevant ethical principles, extract potential ELSIs (Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues), and conduct risk assessments associated with the use of such technologies.

As part of these activities, workshops were held on August 26 and October 22, 2025, with participation from companies interested in the potential risks associated with AI utilization. These workshops focused on identifying ELSIs related to emotion-recognition AI and discussing possible technical and organizational measures to address them. This report provides an overview of the discussions and outcomes of these sessions.

The workshops were conducted in cooperation with the Japanese Standards Association (JSA) and organized within the framework of the joint “AI Risk Study Group.”
