The ICT Week attracts Uzbeki technical founders working on internationally competitive technological projects. Prof. Yamshchikov gave a keynote at the track “From research to AI startups: how scientific ideas become global products”. The talk’s title, “The price of AI assistance”, reflected several AIOLIA research results: bias of the models that could affect personal career choices of the user and other the key ideas of AIOLIA’s policy brief “Operational ethics guidelines on use cases related to human behaviour and cognition“.

The second presentation was at the TashTech, a new engineering research university in Tashkent. Approximately 100 bachelor students from 4 engineering study programs listened to the talk “How machines change humans”. The talk was dedicated to the problem of deskilling through over-reliance on the technology which is particularly important for the first year students. The lecture included practical training on AI usage that could preserve human agency and mitigate over-reliance.

The third and final presentation was at School 21 for a mixed audience of 70 people, including students of the Civil Service Academy of Uzbekistan, Customs Academy, School 21, as well as members of the public. The lecture, “The price of AI assistance,” was followed by a discussion that lasted for over an hour. Since most of the audience were students interested in the civil service, both the lecture and the follow-up focused on AI applications in civil service, digital government as well as ethical tensions that might rise in this context. Once again, policy brief “Operational ethics guidelines on use cases related to human behaviour and cognition” was the core AIOLIA material presented.

AIOLIA’s partner Prof. Dr. Ivan Yamshchikov (THWS) visited Uzbekistan and gave three public lectures presenting results of AIOLIA research as well as some of the training materials and the policy brief on personal AI assistants.
